Gilroy, California is located in Santa Clara County where more than 48,000 residents call it home. Well-known throughout the region for the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, the city has a long history that starts with John Gilroy himself. Over time, Gilroy has become a lively city with plenty of things to do and places to eat. It’s also home to Nissan of Gilroy, otherwise known as a dealership with great vehicles and even better prices.
After jumping ship in California during the War of 1812, John Gilroy, formerly known as John Cameron, moved throughout the missions that populated the region. Unfortunately, there was only one other person in the area who spoke English. He eventually married Maria Clara, the daughter of a rancher. By the law at the time, Clara’s division of the property fell to Gilroy. It didn’t take long for the settlement to grow around the ranch complex. By 1848, Gilroy served as the head of the thriving village.
